Beyond the Apex: A Contemporary Endodontic Surgical Approach
The Beyond the Apex concept represents a contemporary minimally invasive endodontic surgical approach focused on the precise management of the periapical region. By integrating microsurgical techniques, CBCT imaging, and digital treatment planning, greater treatment predictability can be achieved in complex lesions and retreatment cases.
Digitally guided endodontics and endodontic surgery, based on intraoral scanning, CAD/CAM planning, and static or dynamic navigation, enable more accurate access to calcified root canals, optimize osteotomy and retrograde cavity preparation, and reduce surgical trauma.
The use of bioactive materials, including calcium silicate cements and bioceramics, combined with microscopic control, contributes to faster healing and long-term treatment stability. This integrated approach expands therapeutic possibilities beyond conventional intracanal treatment and reinforces the role of endodontics in preserving teeth with an otherwise unfavorable prognosis.
